Sisters in Crime
Sisters in Crime (SinC) is a prominent international organization dedicated to promoting the ongoing advancement, recognition, and professional development of women crime writers. Founded in 1986 by Sara Paretsky and a group of visionary authors during the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention, the group was established to combat gender imbalance in the publishing industry, specifically addressing the fact that women authors were being reviewed and nominated for awards significantly less often than their male counterparts.
Today, the organization boasts thousands of members worldwide—including authors, readers, librarians, and publishing professionals—and has expanded its mission to advocate for diversity and equity within the mystery genre. Through its various chapters, SinC provides essential networking opportunities, educational webinars, and grants, ensuring that voices from all backgrounds are heard in the world of crime fiction.
