National Association of Black Journalists
The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is the largest organization of journalists of color in the United States, dedicated to advocating for African American media professionals and ensuring fair, balanced coverage of the Black community. Founded in 1975 by 44 visionary journalists in Washington, D.C., the non-profit organization has grown to a membership of over 4,000, including professional and student journalists, educators, and media-related professionals. NABJ is renowned for its annual National Convention and Career Fair—the largest of its kind in the nation—and its commitment to diversifying newsrooms through robust scholarship programs, internships, and professional development via the NABJ Media Institute. By honoring excellence through the Salute to Excellence Awards and maintaining a strong network of regional chapters, the association continues to empower its members to reach the upper echelons of media management and entrepreneurship.
